Greetings from PGIMER, Chandigarh !
The 50th Annual Conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India (SNMICON 2018), to be held at PGIMER, Chandigarh, is now only a few months away. This "Golden Jubilee" conference will bring together all of us who have put in a lifetime of effort to bring this society to this landmark event.
The theme for this conference is "50 years of achievements – challenges and opportunities ahead" and will highlight the development of nuclear medicine in India from very basic facilities at a few centres half a century ago to state-of-the-art facilities - at par with the best in the world - available today. Participants will learn of the rapid development and spread of nuclear medicine facilities to the remotest parts of the country in recent years, the people who made this possible and the necessary equipment, regulations and other requirements for setting up new centres. The scientific program will cover the latest developments in molecular imaging techniques and radionuclide therapy as well as their clinical applications, radionuclide drug development and changing radiation safety and medico-legal considerations of SPECT/CT, PET/CT and PET/MR fusion imaging. The emphasis will be on interactive sessions and panel discussions with clinical colleagues to encourage active participation of all delegates. We hope the students and residents will benefit from the experience of their colleagues and teachers and gather encouragement from the pioneers in research. Several international speakers have confirmed their active participation, and this will add to the academic benefits of this conference.
The dates for submission of abstracts for oral and poster sessions have been finalised and are posted on the conference website. Chandigarh has a wide choice of hotel accommodation for different budgets. Kindly make your arrangements for travel and stay well in advance. The weather in Chandigarh in November is cool and pleasant, though light jackets may be required in the evenings. The organising committee welcomes all delegates to avail the discounted early registration rates and actively participate in this landmark event in the history of our society.
Chandigarh is well connected by road, rail and air to all major cities of India and lies in close proximity to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. The conference participants and their accompanying family members may like to take this opportunity to make a trip to the scenic hill stations of Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Mussoorie or historical places like the Golden Temple at Amritsar. Chandigarh itself has many tourist attractions like the Nek Chand Rock Garden, Sukhna lake, several scenic gardens, shopping malls and food courts. Travel within the city is convenient and safe using mobile app based taxi services or autorickshaws to cover the short distances on the wide, clean roads; the average trip takes about 15-20 minutes to reach any of the city's important destinations. We hope every member of our society will take this opportunity to attend and make this historic meeting a grand success.
We look forward to seeing you in Chandigarh, the "City Beautiful" in November 2018!
